Emilie Houldsworth

Emilie Houldsworth (b. 1990, Bristol) is a visual artist living and working between Bristol and London. Her practice explores the construction of perception through visual and material language, examining tensions between internal and external realities. Drawing on dualities- soft and hard, wealth and labour, ornate and industrial- her work questions systems of control, beauty, and value. Influenced by geometry, mass production, and technological mediation, she considers how contemporary reality is shaped and experienced. Through the act of looking, her compositions reveal the entanglement of power, labour, desire, and aesthetic experience.

Houldsworth holds a Foundation Diploma from The Bristol School of Art, a Bachelor’s degree in Sculpture from Edinburgh College of Art, and a Master’s degree in Textiles from The Royal College of Art where she was awarded The Ameea Scholarship award.
