Gonçalo Sena
Gonçalo Sena (born 1984) lives and works in Lisbon, Portugal. Using drawing as a starting point, Gonçalo’s practice develops through material and architectural processes, resulting in sculptures, printed matter, temporary structures and displaced environments. The vocabulary of each work and installation derives from an ecosystem of non-functional relations between everyday objects, industrial materials, and organic elements – all apparently immutable, yet, all in constant mutation – combined in space into raw, unresolved, landscape narratives. Gonçalo graduated from FBAUL and received his MFA degree at the Dutch Art Institute, with a studies grant from Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. He participated in the artist residencies Le Pavillon, Fondazione Antonio Ratti, Skowhegan, CCA Andratx, Blank100×Craveiral, and Guardiões do Mira. In 2021, Gonçalo received the Premio Apertura Comunidad de Madrid. His work has been exhibited at Estufa Fria de Lisboa, CA2M – Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo, Oldenburger Kunstverein, MAAT – Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, Cordoaria Nacional and Palais de Tokyo.
