Haus Otto
Furniture Painting
Through objects, installations and conceptual interventions, German art-and-design duo Haus Otto (Nils Körner, b. 1992, and Patrick Henry Nagel, b. 1993) explores the intersections of art and design, engaging with social and ecological issues. Their work often play with perception, functionality, identity and aesthetics and is characterized by the use of experimental and process-based materials as well as industrial materials such as steel, wood and textiles.
A central piece of the exhibition, Furniture Paintings, is an ongoing series where Haus Otto reimagines found and discarded furniture. Through deconstruction and reassembly, they transform these forgotten items into "paintings", that evoke both personal and collective memory, uncovering hidden details and restoring new value. Trained as industrial designers, at the State Academy of Art and Design Stuttgart, their works self reflect the role of everyday objects, within production and consumption systems. With a conceptual and playful approach their work challenges conventional ideas of craft, function and artistic purpose.
Haus Otto’s work has been showcased at prestigious international exhibtions such as Lafayette Anticipations (Paris, FR), Art Basel (Basel, CH), Salone del Mobile (Milan, ITA), the Voo Space and Forma Gallery in Berlin. (Berlin, DE). Their work has garnered significant recognition, including the Rising Talent Award Germany (2025), Mia Seeger Award (2022) and where nominated for the German Newcomer Award (2021). Haus Otto’s innovative and cross-disciplinary approach has also led to collaborations with notable institutions, including Nils Holger Moormann, Hugo Boss, IBA27 and the city of Stuttgart.
